Director of Worldwide Publicity at PIXAR

Location: Emeryville, CA

Job Responsibilities:
Pixar Animation Studios is an Academy Award®-winning computer animation studio with the technical, creative and production capabilities to develop computer-animated feature and short films with memorable characters and heartwarming stories that appeal to audiences of all ages.
Pixar has created eight of the most successful and beloved animated films of all time: Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars and most recently Ratatouille. The studio has won 20 Academy Awards® and its eight films have grossed more than $3.4 billion at the worldwide box office to date. The Northern California studio's next film release is WALL-E (June 27, 2008).

Summary of Position:
Manage staff responsible for feature and short film theatrical and home video publicity, Awards campaigns, corporate communications, community, industry and government relations and executive initiatives.

Responsibilities:
  • In partnership with Disney, develop plans for global product publicity (theatrical, home video).
  • Serve as primary point of contact to production on all publicity issues/opportunities.
  • Manage and oversee integration of publicity campaigns with Disney portfolio of films.
  • Develop plans for general market and niche media (responsible for idea generation: e.g., Auto broadcast and print plan, Culinary outreach).
  • Oversee the development of and distribution of press materials (pubstills, epk, video montage, etc.) and develop new content ideas for marketing / pr use.
  • Oversee Disney synergy related opportunities (Movie Surfers, Disney Parks, etc.).
  • Ensure integration of Film/Music publicity plans, leverage opportunities for maximum benefit
  • Develop strategic message platforms, key messages, etc.
  • Manage Pixar-driven events: Detroit Auto Show, ShoWest and Route 66 tour.
  • Partner with Disney Publicity to create strategic domestic film awards (campaigns + related); leverage DVD release publicity for Academy benefit (and vice versa).
  • Partner with Pixar¿s marketing discipline leaders to develop integrated communication plans (Director of Marketing, Manager of Creative Services).
  • Create and execute annual media training for filmmakers and executives.
  • Create reputation management strategies for Pixar (studio) and filmmakers.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with 1) key media influencers; 2) 3rd party allies; 3) Pixar production teams; 4) key individuals in the film industry; 5) Disney representatives.
  • Liase with The Walt Disney Studios (marketing, events, field marketing, BVHE,) and other partners (Synergy, etc.).
Corporate / Studio Programs Communications:
  • Create briefings and prepare executives for interviews and presentations including participation in Disney shareholder¿s meeting, other corporate-driven events.
  • Develop positioning statements on industry issues / topics (MoCap, State of Industry, etc.).
  • Develop plans and manage publicity for Pixar-specific projects designed to develop and maintain studio¿s reputation within key markets worldwide (i.e., MoMA and museum tour).
  • Develop and manage PR efforts for Pixar partners including recruiting, RenderMan, etc..
  • Create strategic communications program for Pixar integration into TWDC communications plans.
  • Initiate misc. communications projects for office of president, head of production, etc.
  • Manage Corporate Communications requests and issues/ reputation management for the Studio, executives, directors and producers (non-film related), etc.
  • Oversee staffer responsible for presentations and speaking engagements.
Community Relations:

Oversee staffer responsible for the Studio¿s community relations efforts (both in concert with Disney Worldwide Outreach and independent studio goals).

Qualifications:
  • Minimum 7-10 years experience in publicity, communications, marketing or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing or related.
  • Industry experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to travel---as necessary--to manage off-site publicity efforts, foster relationships, host Pixar filmmaking talent, etc.
