About this job
An exciting opportunity exists for a competent techie wishing to unleash his or her technical writing and editing ability in a young, dynamic and innovative company.

Practical experience with client-side technologies and at least one server-side platform are expected. A broad interest in Web technology and programming fundamentals is also required. Excellent writing and editing skills are a must, as well as strong communication and organizational skills.

The ideal candidate should have a working knowledge of as many Web technologies as possible (e.g. HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, Flash, PHP, ASP.NET, Java, MySQL, SQL Server, etc.).

The most suitable person for this role will be someone who is passionate about Web Design and Development, has been tinkering with different Web technologies for some time, and enjoys reading and writing.

Objective
The objective of this role is to identify and correct errors, omissions, and unclear wording in technical books and articles written for Web developers and Designers. The role will involve exploring and understanding new technologies quickly and efficiently.

Key responsibilities
Technical Editing:
  • Identify and correct mistakes in programming code.
  • Identify and correct omissions and unclear explanations.
  • Reformat programming code for readability and consistency.
  • Ensure programming code and described techniques comply with established standards and best practices.
  • Perform code testing across various platforms.

Technical Writing:
  • Rewrite passages of content that do not meet editorial standards.
  • Produce new technical content for publication.

Research & Analysis:
  • Evaluate technical articles and draft book chapters to determine the suitability of prospective authors.
  • Research and present new ideas for potential content.

Other Duties:
  • Perform other duties as required to guarantee the editorial quality of SitePoint's technical publications is maintained.

Selection Criteria
  • Ability to assimilate with new technologies, programming languages, and development frameworks.
  • Breadth of working knowledge and past experience with a range of web technologies.
  • Strong writing skills and ability to communicate technical ideas clearly.

Performance Review
  • Starting salary will be determined based on experience.
  • A mandatory three-month probation period will apply.
  • Payment of bonuses and/or salary increases will be based on achievement of measurable outcomes.
