Systems / Sales Emngineer at Penguin Computing

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Recognizes & interprets customer needs to architect comprehensive solutions & position servers & workstations accordingly
  • Works with other engineers to develop & report on benchmarks, custom configurations & applications for clusters, and Web server farms
  • Works on network topology benchmarking for GigE and low latency requirements
  • Storage benchmarking
  • Develops technical responses to RFIs/RFPs
  • Conducts product presentations, system architecture and designs system troubleshooting
  • Provides technical input back to Corporate Product Management Team for customer requested enhancements;
  • Operates and supports customers for quality and technical issues;
  • Provides assistance for field based support and professional services requirements
  • Follows & contributes to pertinent cluster & other targeted vertical mailing lists to increase Penguin's profile among the technical community while uncovering potential business
  • Provides technical assistance in the development of formal procedures & documentation for statements of work & project management
  • Participates in trade shows & product demonstrations

Requirements:
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in computer science.
  • Applicants must be highly knowledgeable of the following programs: Python and UNIX shell scripting, Linux system (RedHat, Debian, Gentoo, SUSE) configuration
  • High-level knowledge in Networking (TCP/IP, DHCP, Iptables, Ipfw)
  • Applicants must be able to write, modify and document C, C++, Java, Perl, XHTML, CSS, CGI applications.
  • Candidates must be able to troubleshoot as well as compile the Linux kernel and kernel modules.
  • Must have at least one year of experience in customer account management.
  • Must have excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • This is a full-time position, M-F, 9-5:30pm. Some travel required to customer's location for onsite services.
