Audience Strategist

Yahoo! has implemented a solutions-based sales strategy that is successfully positioning the company into strategic partnerships far upstream in the marketing planning process. To help support these high level client partnerships which include sustained engagement with C-level executives, Yahoo! has created the Audience Strategist position.

The Audience Strategist is a special executive that understands the fundamental principles that bring certainty to the complex world of advertising in the 21st century. Yahoo! owes its partners the leading edge insights into consumer behavior and innovative marketing best practices and this executive is on the front line delivering that service. This is not evangelism or academic; this is the investment of client’s funds for the greatest impact against specifically defined success metrics.

Competitive candidates must have a career history of thought leadership, strategic insights and creativity to go with management skills involving complex levels of collaboration.

The Audience Strategist will:
  • Provide leadership grounded in the fundamentals that drive successful advertising campaigns and the application of those fundamentals to new consumer behavior in the digital world.
  • Quickly understand a client’s key business problems and marketing strategies. The candidate must excel at translating the client’s input into clear, concise objectives that are actionable by Yahoo!.
  • Own strategic excellence for every aspect of the client relationship over the long term.
  • Take a hands on and holistic approach to audience data analysis (3rd party research, original research and Yahoo! audience data) in order to translate the marketer's consumer segmentation strategy into an optimized solution for database driven targeting.
  • Interpret the significance of key trends and Yahoo! innovations in the context of their relevance and application to the client’s marketing objectives.
  • Articulate success metrics that are both actionable and directly tied to objectives.
  • Objectively analyze campaign performance and recommend actions for continuous improvement.

Basic Requirements:
  • Strong understanding of all media channels.
  • Ability to build a strategy that is grounded in consumer behavior.
  • A passion for change and transformation.
  • History of building solutions that materialize in the marketplace.
  • A proven collaborator and relationship builder with C-level client executives.
  • Understand flowcharting and other graphical techniques that create a clear vision of how a client’s strategy and initiatives are linked directly to media investment recommendations.
  • Ability to work in a fluid, matrixed and dynamic organization.

Preferred Requirements:
  • Min 5 years in senior marketing strategy client-services roles (advertising, media planning, consulting, research).
  • Demonstrated comfort with a data-based approach to marketing.
  • Agency/media experience.
  • Ability to think strategically, creatively and analytically at the same time.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
