Distinguished Infrastructure Architect at Ebay

Primary Job Responsibilities
Working in the PayPal Operations organization, this individual is required to demonstrate Technical Architectural Leadership, playing a vital role in eBay/PayPal infrastructure running in 24x7x52 environment. The candidate must be able to think independently and analyze, troubleshoot and resolve complex business and technical problems without direction, internationally, on all aspects of information systems. Provide direct support to PayPal Technology Executive Management on vision, strategy, due diligence, audits and governance.

Responsibilities include the following:
  • Define and evolve PayPal Technology into a world class, cost-effective enterprise operation.
  • Partnering with cross-functional organizations, develop strategic infrastructure architecture and technology roadmap that meet senior management vision and strategy.
  • Design and develop infrastructure standards, procedures, guidelines, policies and lifecycle that meet PayPal’s scalability, performance, security, and availability requirements.
  • Design and interpret system metrics and scorecard to measure effectiveness of technology tools.
  • Perform and direct risk assessments, audits, systems reviews, and define risk mitigation. Analyze system incidents, assess risk and lead the incident response team (to root cause and documented controls to prevent future incidents).
  • Develop and present executive documents on technology subjects and strategies.
  • Manage, design, or provide consulting support to technology projects. Interact with internal and external technical leaders to develop innovative solutions that meet market needs with respect to availability, functionality, performance, scalability, security, and reliability.
  • Partner with Corporate and Global Security, Trust and Safety, and other eBay entities for corporate architecture solutions.
  • Translate technical concepts into cost and risks to the business, and adjust technology strategy and tactical efforts to meet PayPal’s corporate objectives.
  • Define business needs and direct technology solutions for new systems and applications.
  • Participate on Business Continuance projects.
  • Lead new technology integration via requirements analysis, proof of concept, design, and implementation. Make recommendations and implementations for new tools and technologies.
  • Make recommendations for improving the complete system development life cycle and direct the actual implementation of those recommendations.
  • Quickly learn and teach others new technologies.
Job Requirements
  • Current knowledge and experience of industry trends and technology advancements.
  • Experience implementing large scale, high availability, fault tolerant web infrastructure in a dynamic environment.
  • Very strong leadership and ability to command respect at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to clearly articulate business and technical issues with senior management, peers, and outside parties (e.g. vendors, partners).
  • Experienced in developing and presenting strategic technology solutions that drive the business.
  • Ability to demonstrate expertise and leadership in problem solving expertise.
  • Solid understanding of software data flow, and how it applies to the physical layer.
  • Ability to quickly learn existing complex systems infrastructure.
  • Demonstrable analytical and problem solving skills, particularly as it relates to systems design.
  • Facilitation and team-building skills at all levels. Ability to influence, train, mentor and leverage the skills of others, including business partners and technical team.
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-pressured environment. Ability to multi-task multiple projects at once and drive to results independently.
