Presentation Software Engineer at Ebay

Primary Job Responsibilities
In this exciting and challenging opportunity, the successful candidate will join eBay’s kernel presentation team. He/She will be working on the development and implementation of the next generation of front-end technology for eBay’s web site. This candidate will work closely with cross functional teams (Architects, UI design, product development and product management), using his/her knowledge of Java/JavaScript/AJAX/XSL/CSS/Flash/DHTML to improve the functionality of the eBay presentation tier.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Collaborate with eBay architects on eBay’s redesign of our presentation tier.
  • Lead and assist in implementation of product changes for eBay’s presentation tier technology and product.
  • Interact with other Kernel PT engineers to develop best of breed AJAX, CSS, Javascript, Flash, Silverlight, JavaFX integrations and products.
  • Interact with eBay UI design lab to develop and analyze page design and develop recommendations and best practices.
  • Interact with eBay’s Site Performance Team to analyze site speed or slowdown issues and develop recommendations for product changes.
  • As a Presentation Tier SME, lead and interact with Product, Development and QA teams to resolve presentation tier issues.
  • Analyze and recommend tools to help with any of the preceding responsibilities.

Additional Responsibilities will include:
  • Documentation of best practices and creation of knowledge base
  • Facilitating Problem Diagnosis and Resolution, including the automation of such
  • Adding unit tests for specific features

Job Requirements
  • 5+ years of large scale, full life cycle development experience (or MS and 3+ years).
  • 3+ years experience in software development in both frontend and backend using Java, Java Servlet, XML.
  • 2+ years experience in web development, including HTML and CSS.
  • 1+ years experience in web development using AJAX and JavaScript.
  • Excellent communication skills with both non-technical designers and software engineers.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and deliver in a fast paced multi-project environment.
  • Experience with source control systems (Rational ClearCase) and bug management (Rational ClearQuest) or other similar enterprise tools.
  • Experience in globalization and localization a plus.
  • Experience with XSL development a plus.
  • BS/BA in Computer Science, Design, or related discipline.
