Primary Job Responsibilities
Working in the PayPal Operations organization, this individual is required to demonstrate Technical Architectural Leadership, playing a vital role in eBay/PayPal infrastructure running in 24x7x52 environment. The candidate must be able to think independently and analyze, troubleshoot and resolve complex business and technical problems without direction, internationally, on all aspects of information systems. Provide direct support to PayPal Technology Executive Management on vision, strategy, due diligence, audits and governance.

Responsibilities include the following:
  • Define and evolve PayPal Technology into a world class, cost-effective enterprise operation.
  • Partnering with cross-functional organizations, develop strategic infrastructure architecture and technology roadmap that meet senior management vision and strategy.
  • Design and develop infrastructure standards, procedures, guidelines, policies and lifecycle that meet PayPal’s scalability, performance, security, and availability requirements.
  • Design and interpret system metrics and scorecard to measure effectiveness of technology tools.
  • Perform and direct risk assessments, audits, systems reviews, and define risk mitigation. Analyze system incidents, assess risk and lead the incident response team (to root cause and documented controls to prevent future incidents).
  • Develop and present executive documents on technology subjects and strategies.

A 12 year history of technical preparedness for this role is required to provide guidance on the architecture of the world’s leading e-commerce web site serving a community of 200 millions users, accessing over 1 billion pages per day, and manipulating more than 2 Petabytes of data through applications totaling over 6 millions of lines of codes released to production every 2 weeks.

  • Working closing with the Business Units, Systems Administrators, Network Engineers, Applications Developers, System Architects and Data Base Administrators. Determine system design, scalability characteristics, potential issues, and implementation costs of major business requirements.
  • Interact with internal and external technical leaders to develop innovative solutions and implementation strategies that preserve the integrity, availability, stability, security, and scalability of eBay’s site.
  • Review external technologies and products for their applicability to specific project requirements. Must be able to compare various solutions and select the one most appropriate for the project and company.
