Visual Designer at YouTube

This position is based in San Bruno, CA.

YouTube is an exciting, dynamic, and fast-paced environment that is changing the world, and we are seeking experienced Visual Designers who want to help change it with us.

As a Visual Designer at YouTube you would be part of a a fun, hard-working User Experience team and work closely with UI designers, usability researchers, engineers, developers, business and product managers to define the visual language of the world's foremost video sharing platform.

Responsibilities:

  • Translating user feedback or business requirements and into visual user interfaces.
  • Delivering preliminary mockups, pie-in-the sky mockups, final mockups, the whole gamut.
  • Ensuring the consistent visual presentation of several YouTube touch-points.
  • Being instrumental in the continuing development of the YouTube visual style.
Requirements:
  • BFA or higher in formal visual design education, solid knowledge of Adobe Fireworks, Photoshop, at least working knowledge of Adobe Flash; CSS and HTML knowledge a plus.
  • A passion for doing great work and a passion for wanting to make the YouTube community exceptionally happy.
  • 5+ yrs professional web development experience as a key member of a UE team participating in the complete lifecycle of several successfully delivered web and/or software applications.
  • Solid understanding of web graphics techniques and site production practices.
  • Solid understanding of user-centered design principles and web 'best practices;' a regular or avid user of multiple web-based products and services (including YouTube).
  • Strong creative and visual skills; ability to explain your thinking; strong interpersonal skills; an ability to work independently and with a group.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new approaches to complex design problems and convey ideas into tangible form.
  • Supreme attention to detail; a demonstrated mastery of typography, color, and page layout.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and consistently meet aggressive deadlines.
  • A sense of humor.
