Network and Systems Administrator at hi5

Position: Network and Systems Administrator
Location: San Francisco, CA

We are looking for an individual who has a strong background in network devices and network protocols, as well as a good understand in Linux/Unix systems. This individual must have significant experience in efficiently designing and supporting highly available networks and systems.

Work in a small, nimble, extremely motivated team to:
  • Design, manage and support a highly available network infrastructure including routers, switches and Linux servers
  • Troubleshoot performance and stability issues
  • Automate routine processes and tasks
  • Provide for network security
  • Monitor the network
  • Improve web site performance
  • Manage databases
  • Be a part of our on call rotation

Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with BGP, HSRP, VLAN's, Spanning Tree and other routing protocols.
  • Strong understanding of VPN technologies.
  • Experience with SNMP.
  • Experience in a hands-on Systems/Network administration role. A focus on Linux is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of client-server software, server architectures, performance bottlenecks.
  • Experience with highly available Linux architectures composed of hundreds of servers.
  • Good understanding of load balancing technologies and web servers.
  • Significant experience with evaluating and recommending new or improved solutions to complex problems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong communication skills are required.
  • Experience working in collocation datacenter facilities.
  • Experience with Postgres, DNS, SMTP would be highly valued.
  • Experience with Mac OS/X is desirable.
