Software Engineer, Data Mining at YouTube

YouTube allows people to easily upload and share video clips on www.youtube.com and across the Internet through websites, mobile devices, blogs and email. YouTube has quickly become the leading destination on the Internet for video entertainment.

The Business Intelligence team is building a platform that provides various business units with access to data from all of YouTube's properties. The successful candidate will work in a team to design, develop and implement a reporting solution from the bottom up. The candidate's strong design and development skills will ensure the Data warehouse can meet scalability and performance requirements in order to sustain the exponential growth our platform is exposed to. The candidate should thrive in a fast paced, collaborative and fun environment and should have a strong sense of ownership. The ability to clearly communicate with various internal customers and provide results in a timely manner are key.

Requirements:

  • BS in Computer Science, Management Informational Systems or equivalent.
  • 4 years or more of working experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of SQL, Oracle preferred.
  • Knowledge of Database Design concepts.
  • Working knowledge of Unix.
  • Working knowledge of Shell or Perl Scripting.
  • Excellent communication skills - must be able to understand business requests and convert them into technical solutions.
  • Prior Data warehousing experience is a strong plus.
  • Prior MySQL experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Star/Snowflake schema design is a plus.
  • Teamwork oriented.
  • Ability to work under tight time deadlines.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.
