CNET.com is seeking an Associate Software Engineer who will be an integral part of the Shopper and Catalog Engineering team. This is an entry-level role with the opportunity to grow within a larger engineering organization. This engineer will build tools, services, and data processes to support the highly trafficked sites of CNET Reviews and CNET Shopper. Millions of users visit these sites every month to research options for the purchase of consumer electronics products. Responsibilities will extend to any of the applications associated with CNET's Editorial and Catalog initiatives including both front facing applications and back-end services. Knowledge of Java, JSP, JSTL, and MySQL are an absolute must, but a deep understanding of all web technologies from a technical and product perspective are also very important. The applicant should have some experience with Web 2.0 technologies with an interest in building out and supporting back-end infrastructure and services. This engineer will become part of CNET’s dynamic technical community which will provide opportunities to work with open source technologies, develop innovative Tech Time projects, and craft solutions using new technologies.
Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of previous professional development experience with Java or J2EE applications
- Hands-on development with MVC frameworks like Spring and DAO frameworks like Hibernate
- Excellent knowledge of JAVA/JSP/JSTL and MySQL
- Strong ability to rapidly design, build and own technical components, within tools, back-end infrastructure, or front-end web applications
- Must have good communication skills and the ability to interface with non-technical users
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt in a face-paced environment
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent training and experience
