PHP Performance Engineer at Facebook

Facebook is seeking a PHP Performance Engineer to join the Product Engineering team. The position is a full-time position based in our main office in downtown Palo Alto.

Location: Palo Alto, CA

Responsibilities:

• Identify performance bottlenecks in PHP applications
• Provide code optimization recommendations
• Prototype and implement optimization techniques
• Benchmark existing code and enhancements
• Participate in design and code reviews
• Code primarily in PHP
• Interface with other team members to incorporate their innovations and vice versa
• Identify and communicate best practices

Requirements:

• A passion for performance debugging and benchmarking
• Knowledge of PHP and system profiling tools
• Adept knowledge of the PHP API
• Experience building PHP applications and frameworks
• Basic knowledge of PHP internals and Apache architecture
• Experience working with Apache/PHP in high-performance environments
• Interest in working on the second largest PHP website in the world
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and proven ability to work effectively with all organizational levels
• BS or MS degree in Computer Science or Engineering preferred
