Technical Project Manager at Akamai Technologies

Responsibilities:
  • Technical Project Managers are part of the Akamai Professional Services team and work directly with Akamai's clients to deliver Akamai solutions.
  • TPMs lead and manage the integration of customers’ web sites with the Akamai network. They are involved from early in the pre-sales cycle (proposals and trials) through implementation and customer sign-off.
  • TPMs must have a full understanding of development methodologies, consulting best practices, and common web and application architectures.
  • This position requires a strong technical background, excellent client and project management skills, proven ability to do hands on technical work when needed, and ability to lead technical projects and technical teams.
  • Successful candidates must be action oriented, capable of independently solving complex technical problems and able to communicate clearly and effectively to both technical and business audiences.
Responsibilities include:
  • Work independently or lead small technical teams with Akamai enterprise customers to evaluate their web architecture and deliver the appropriate integration solution. This includes, but is not limited to, evaluating the customers’ content management and publishing processes, web application architecture, security requirements, DNS configurations, and provide detailed documentation for a custom solution that satisfies the customers’ business and technical requirements.
  • Work closely with customers and pre-sales teams to manage and implement customer trials, propose technically feasible solutions and set accurate expectations on effort and timelines for integration. Establish success criteria and act as the single point of contact for the customer for all technical issues and project deliverables.
  • Create and manage to proposals, Statements of Work and detailed project plans for customer integrations including timelines and effort estimates.
  • Work closely with Account Management, Sales professionals, engineering, product development and Customer Care to resolve issues that arise during customer trials or integrations.
  • Identify new product features and additional sales opportunities during trials and integrations and communication of the same to product development and sales teams.
  • Track and document status and time spent on customer integrations.
  • Participate in internal projects that help scale the group, implement best practices, and improving our methodology and quality of integrations.
  • Review quality of customer integrations.
  • Support and train technical team of Partner organizations.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in MIS/CS or 4 years of relevant experience in Internet technologies. Master of Science degree in MIS/CS a plus.
  • 5-8 years of IT solution delivery experience within a consulting organization in progressively responsible positions, including experience as a project technical team lead or technical project manager. Proven track record of delivering successful projects for Fortune 500 customers a must.
  • Experience working on and managing enterprise scale J2EE or .NET projects with direct client exposure. At least some J2EE or .NET coding experience a plus.
  • Experience in one or more web development languages, methodologies, and / or architectures. Candidate should be able to teach a class or provide training and mentoring in these technologies.
  • Must have the ability to travel 20 - 40%
