Associate Editor at CNET

Description:

Responsible for helping the food team in the overall food coverage in chow.com, making sure that coverage conveys the CHOW personality and palate. Assists the CHOW Food Team in the website's food production duties.

Work Scope:
  • Manages recipe editing and publishing of food content under direction of Food Editor
  • Edits CHOW recipes for style accuracy (language and format) during/after testing edit and before final edit
  • Helps maintain efficient and timely workflow of all food team content
  • Helps Senior Editor and Food Editor in writing recipe-focused features
  • Helps FE maintain stylistic consistency across all CHOW recipes
  • Edit recipes according to the CHOW Recipe Style Guide
  • Conducts R&D and fact checking for recipe-related stories
  • Comes up with recipe-related ideas for the site
  • Helps with video shoots
  • Travels as needed to assist on for PR tours
  • Keeps current on trends in cooking and restaurant menus and brings relevant trends and ideas to the Food Editor's attention
  • Keeps current on forthcoming cookbooks and food-related products; brings relevant products to the Food Editor's attention
  • Pitches and produces compelling video stories on food related topics
Experience:

Candidate will have editorial experience, preferably story writing as well as recipe editing. Candidate is familiar with recipe editing techniques and can adhere to CHOW Recipe Style Guide. He or she must be reliable, self-motivated, flexible and willing to work within the changing nature of a daily food media property. We are seeking a self-starter who has a genuine interest in the subject matter and is actively pursuing a career in this field.

Has a Bachelor's Degree preferably in Journalism or English or equivalent professional training and experience. Experience in the online media world and/or in recipe testing is a plus but not mandatory. Experience in food and / or beverage industry a plus but not mandatory.
