Quality Assurance Engineer at DIVX

Quality Assurance Engineer (Black-box)
Location: USA, San Diegox
Description

Are you a master at crashing software and blue screening Windows (more than it normally does)? Did you develop a “test plan” before buying your first car? Do you take things apart just so that you can see what makes them tick? Is the statement “Quality is #1” an understatement? If you answered yes to the above questions then DivX would like to hear from you. We’re looking for a quality assurance (QA) engineer to help us maintain a high bar for our next generation of media technologies for PCs, Macs, Linux, servers, embedded systems and consumer electronics (CE) devices.

Our video creation and playback technologies power millions of consumer electronics devices, from DVD players to portable media players, mobile phones, digital cameras, home media servers and the list goes on. To make it this far in the CE business, we had to ensure seamless interoperability of DivX content and devices across different platforms and competing brand names like Panasonic, Sony, LG, Roxio, Pinnacle and CyberLink to name a few. This requires insight, quality, precision and rock-solid engineering.

The ideal candidate for this position will have strong leadership skills, be well-versed in black-box software testing methodologies, team driven, never territorial and a poster child of Theory Y. If this sounds like you and you think you have what it takes, then we’d like to hear from you. Send us your resume.

The Everyday View

  • Propose and help maintain quality assurance policies and procedures, including implementation of methodologies such as black-box testing, conformance testing, test metrics, defect seeding and defect tracking
  • Lead a small team of QA engineers including task delegation and status reporting
  • Perform ad-hoc, systematic and automated testing of software deliverables
  • Thoroughly document test results and track defects until resolved
  • Participate in development and implementation of test automation strategy
  • Work closely with developers and product managers to conduct design reviews, ensure proper testing during implementation, schedule deliverables and resolve known defects

The Kind of Person We're Looking For

  • At least 5+ years of experience in software quality assurance
  • Good technical and intuitive understanding of how software works … and breaks
  • Working knowledge of software development lifecycle principles and QA methodologies
  • Experience using software test tools and knowledge of how to properly interpret their results
  • Experience testing native multimedia software, web applications, and/or device firmware implementations across a range of platforms including Windows, Mac, Linux, embedded systems and consumer electronics devices
  • Experience with best practices and varied engineering processes (e.g., waterfall, agile, scrum)
  • Working knowledge of software configuration management and version control
  • A passion for working in a fun, fast-paced start-up environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with DivX technology is a major plus
