Senior Software Engineer at ARCHIVE

The Internet Archive is seeking a Senior Software Developer to write software that manages 2 petabytes of data across 1500 machines. Visit www.petabox.org. Responsibilities
  • Write Object-oriented PHP code for a data storage system as well as for the front-end archive.org website.
  • Maintain and improve existing codebase in order to take a 2nd generation stable architecture to next (3rd) generation.
  • Work in a small “teamâ of 2 as a close peer with the lead developer.
  • Create and maintain core infrastructure code for both internal and external usage.
  • Excellent communication skills required.
  • Work on digital music related code if interested.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5 plus years of experience required. PHP experience a plus.
  • Must be fluent in multiple programming languages and object oriented design and abstraction.
  • Must be willing to do practical coding for a live 24x7 website and storage system.
This position will entail working on a mature product although there will be tremendous opportunity to work on new and interesting projects as the Archive is constantly evolving.
