Senior C#/.NET Engineer at GoDaddy

Job Description

Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for development using Microsoft .NET Technologies to create, design, code and enhance web-based software applications to expand and improve GoDaddy.com’s suite of hosting products
Design and development of complex, distributed Windows applications using IIS, ASP.NET 2.0, MSMQ, AD

Skills/Requirements:
  • 5+ years of hands-on programming experience in team environments working on distributed systems
  • Solid academic background – Bachelors/Masters in Computer Science or other technical field
  • In depth knowledge and experience with .NET(C#)
  • Skilled at turning UI designs into attractive, feature-rich, dynamic user interfaces using the latest techniques in web application development (e.g. ASP.NET AJAX)
  • Strong knowledge of OOD and SOA design principles
  • Experience with C++/COM a plus
  • Server-side development on Windows platform. Unix/Linux experience a plus
  • Relational database design, database normalization techniques
  • SQL development utilizing MSSQL and MySQL DBMS
  • Excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills
  • Performance/Load/Stress tolerant design for high availability and high concurrent usage systems
  • Strong attention to detail

Director, Software Engineering at CNET

Description:
The CNET Networks Games & Entertainment group (GameSpot.com, MP3.com, TV.com, FilmSpot.com, MetaCritic.com) is looking for a Director of Engineering. Reporting to the VP of Technology, the Director of Engineering will be responsible for leading the development of all web and software applications with a team of 40+ engineers, testers, and production specialists. This is a highly visible management position for the right person with a superior mix of technology expertise, leadership and management skills, and a passion for music, movies, TV, and games.

Scope of the position:
  • Will be a major contributor in defining and building the next generation of movies, music, television, and games properties on the Internet.
  • Directs and controls all activities in the Software Development Lifecycle including specification delivery, technical design, coding, quality assurance testing, bug fixing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Assists in the design and implementation of web applications.
  • Will further enhance the current software development methodology to enable rapid prototyping and iterative development.
  • Works closely with Project Management to allocate resources and manage business priorities with the VP of Technology.
  • Approves policies that affect the operation of the Software Engineering department. Recommends policies that affect technology and business unit-wide operations.

  • Responsible for the hiring and day-to-day management of all Engineering resources.

Qualifications:
  • Must have 7 to 10 years experience and a proven track record in web and software application development in a medium to large sized team, preferably in the media industry.
  • Technical knowledge in the field of LINUX, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. Java experience is also preferred. Some C# , .NET, and Microsoft SQL Server experience. Must be familiar with GeoIP services, load balancing techniques, web server administration, and LINUX command line expertise.
  • Must be able to translate business requirements into concrete engineering objectives.
  • Must be immersed in all current Internet technologies and Web 2.0, with awareness of up-and-coming trends, technologies, and techniques.
  • Should have the creative drive and passion to provide new perspectives and deliver new and interesting features and functions to the CNET Networks user community in the fields of music, movies, television, and games.
  • Must be able to work with a virtual team of contributors from around the world and across different time zones.

You will be responsible for interaction with and support of third party application developers, and will work closely with the Right Media Exchange’s API engineering and customer solutions teams. The ideal candidate loves troubleshooting customer issues, working with engineering, participating in developer communities, and has a combination of web application development, and integration experience. Strong communication and decision making skills are also required.

Responsibilities include:
  • Assist third party developers to troubleshoot technical issues integrating with RMX APIs (SOAP)
  • Manage API support queues and work with engineering to solve integration problems through various channels, including online discussion forums, FAQ’s, examples, documentation, email, instant messenger and phone conversations
  • Write and troubleshoot API client libraries and sample code in ASP, .Net, C#, C/C++, Java, Python, Perl, PHP, Ruby, and/or JavaScript
  • Continually work to enhance the user experience of developers using YM APIs and raise the visibility and perception of APIs at the executive level

Minimum Job Qualifications:
  • BA/BS degree in computer science or another technical subject; or equivalent work experience
  • Self-directed, motivated, and a driven performer
  • Ability to communicate technical issues/concepts clearly and effectively
  • Comfortable working directly with customers with composure and tact
  • Demonstrated experience solving problems quickly, inventively, and resourcefully
  • Naturally inquisitive with self-sufficient research skills; excellent attention to detail
  • Able to write code (but do not want to code as their full time job)
  • Ideal candidate will have 2-4 years experience in api development, technical support, sales engineering, or consulting for technology companies
  • Experienced (2-4 years) with XML and web services (SOAP, WSDL, REST, RSS, Apache Axis)
  • Fluent (1-2 years) in two or more of: Java, C/C++, C#, ASP, .Net, Python, Perl, PHP, and/or Ruby
  • 2+ years of web application development experience; web-based API integration highly desirable
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux, Windows, and Mac desirable
  • Strong Unix scripting a plus
  • Some business travel (up to 25%) may be required

Work Plan by Quarter After Joining:

Q1
  • Get acquainted with our development environments and API environment and code (php)
  • Get acquainted with API Cerberus, Jira API issue tracking systems
  • Review and improve all API documentation and examples (on Wiki and our website)
  • Moderate and monitor our API user discussion forums
  • Work with offshore API development team and help triage API tickets
  • Start working with Alana on any API support related issues (i.e. documentation etc.)
Q2
  • Work with offshore API developers on setting up new API users
  • Start documenting different API setup needs for different environment if need be, creating examples of setups and usage.
  • Own API documentation needs and pages

Q3
  • Everything listed above
  • Able to handle most if not all the API tickets

This position is full-time in New York, NY. This is not a telecommute or contract position. Salary commensurate with experience.
