Senior Programs Manager: IT Program Management Office at VMware

Location: Palo Alto, CA

Requirements:
  • This position will report to the Sr Director of PMO & Supply Chain Fulfillment and will be responsible for providing project/program management expertise for selected ‘strategic’ VMWare business programs and cross-functional IT projects.
  • The person will contribute to the development and implementation of enterprise-wide project management practices, project governance standards, processes and metrics.
  • This role will also be responsible for helping to deploy a standard methodology among large scale applications projects and incorporating effective project change and risk management controls.
Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of an IT PMO.
  • Help in establishing standards for project and portfolio management including processes, methodologies, metrics and tools to ensure the development and use of project management throughout IT.
  • Ensure appropriate portfolio controls and reporting are in place to monitor and govern the project portfolio.
  • Recommend and manage the alignment and prioritization of project initiatives based on business strategy to meet key objectives.
  • Monitor projects and programs to evaluate progress and quality, manage the issue resolution process and to take corrective action.
  • Serve as Program Manager, as requested, for selected major projects across the company, including, but not limited to major investments in IT systems.
Organization:
  • Reports to the Sr Director of PMO & Supply Chain Fulfillment.
Competencies:
  • BS business or Computer Science (required); MBA (preferred);
  • Experience/ Knowledge/ skills
  • 7 – 10 years IT projects related work experience
  • 3–5 years experience leading major Programs/Projects in a complex, global corporate setting
  • Demonstrated track record of successful PMO assignments
  • Strong process improvement background including metrics development
  • Experience with change management techniques / driving cultural change
  • Intellectual requirements/ Interpersonal requirements/ Motivation
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in large scale IT environment
  • Must be a self-starter, motivated individual who works well under pressure
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and coordinate tasks
