Job Description

The position of Network Engineer requires an individual with a solid understanding of basic data communications concepts. Position responsibilities include daily operations, deployments, troubleshooting, service request fulfillment, and projects. Interaction with other teams within the company for a variety of company initiatives will be required. This position will work closely with the team on the future direction of the network design and implementation.

The Candidate will have strong communication skills with attention to detail; will work with a sense of urgency and take action quickly in response to ever-changing conditions in a high pressure, highly accountable environment; will be a creative problem solver.

Job Duties:
  • Complete tasks based on Workflow and Incident Tickets.
  • Assist with the creation of documentation for daily Network Operations tasks.
  • Respond to Alerts in order to maintain the highest available uptime of the network.
  • Perform level one and level two troubleshooting for network outages.
  • Escalate to Network Engineering based on established procedures.
  • BIND DNS updates as requested.
  • Configure Cisco switches, routers, Firewalls, and Content switches per request.
  • Open TAC cases as necessary.
  • Perform work according to established policies and procedures.
  • Shift work in a 24x7 environment required.
Skills/Requirements
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts, including IPv4, L2/L3 forwarding, firewalls, Quality of Service, L4-7 switching, VRF, Load Balancing
  • Experience in operating and troubleshooting data networks
  • Solid documentation abilities
  • Experience with network tools and functions such as tcpdump, ethereal, ntop, netflow accounting, iptables, ACLs, policy routing
  • Solid background in TCP/IP, BGP, DNS/Bind, OSPF, and other routing protocols.
  • Expert understanding of all Cisco Catalyst switches, Cisco CSS/CSM Content Switches, Cisco PIX/FWSM Firewalls, Routers, and VPN
  • Cisco CCNA certification preferred
  • Strong experience with ISC BIND DNS versions 8.x and 9.x
