Senior UNIX Administrator at MLB

MLBAM is seeking a Systems Administrator for an immediate opening.
The Senior Systems Administrator will be responsible for deployment, management and maintenance of a large group of Sun enterprise systems running Solaris, Java (IPlanet, Netscape and SunONE) web server, application software, and other internet services. This position and associated skills are required to provide robust and secure internet services to Major League Baseball clubs, business partners and to baseball fans worldwide. Successful senior-level candidates must have 5 years of experience with enterprise software and hardware implementations.

Responsibilities
  • On location administration of Chicago area data center
  • Operate in a fast-paced, performance-focused team, ensuring that services remain online and responsive during the type of sudden demand surges that are associated with "big-event" periods
  • Ability to self manage and work outside of an office environment
  • Support and maintain a 24 x 7 Enterprise Internet Server Farm
Required Skills -
  • A successful senior-level candidate will have hands on experience with: Current Sun Microsystems Hardware and performance tuning
  • Solaris specific and general Unix technology
  • Sun Java Enterprise System
  • Sun Cluster 3.1
  • Dynamic System Domaining of Sun Enterprise Hardware
  • Netscape/SunOne/iPlanet web server
  • Java Application servers and JSP architecture in general
  • Apache web server
  • Complex TCP/IP networking concepts in LAN and WAN environments
  • Comprehensive understanding of network-layer and application-layer load-balancing concepts
  • Network and Host security best practices
  • NFS
  • Cisco equipment and SAN switches
  • Data center deployment and management
  • Storage Area Networking
  • Some Oracle and general SQL experience helpful
  • Strong Perl and Unix shell scripting
  • Strong knowledge of HTTP 1.0 and 1.1
  • Strong knowledge of content-distribution-networks and http caching
  • DNS, SMTP, POP, spam-filtering, syslog
  • Solaris Volume Manager or Veritas experience
  • Veritas Netbackup and other backup software
  • Global server load balancing and disaster recovery strategies
  • Experience with customized content-management systems
  • Streaming media and audio/video encoding and compression technologies

For this position, you should have the following qualifications:

  • BE in CS/EE.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in the IT field.

  • Excellent organizational skills and strong communication skills are required.
  • Experience working in collocation datacenter facilities.
  • Experience with Postgres, DNS, SMTP would be highly valued.
  • Experience with Mac OS/X is desirable.
