FreeBSD Network / Web Services Admin for a short term at Octane

Location: Canada

Description:

We are currently looking for a FreeBSD Network / Web Services Admin for a short term (2-3 months?) contract to help us get our servers in order.
We currently maintain several FreeBSD servers at an off-site co-location facility. Boxes were added to our network as we expanded and as such, we would like to make sure that they are all performing as efficient as possible.
At the end of the contract we would like our servers to be in a position that they can be run and maintained with minimal effort from our internal team or handed off to a hosting company that will deal with the day-to-day management of them.

Think of this position as "Home Make-Over". The only difference is we're making over our server and sadly there will be no TV show based on your success :(

You're the expert, our servers need the make-over, work your magic.

The services / packages currently running on these servers include:
  • Apache (1.3)
  • MySQL
  • Perl
  • PHP
  • ImageMagick
  • Sendmail
  • SSH
  • FTP Accounts
  • Webmin
  • SpamAssassin
Responsibilities:
  • We require someone to come in and perform a complete inventory of what services are running on which boxes and their efficiency.
  • Technical team members will be available to discuss the current operating proceedures, requirements and desired functionality of each box.
  • Following the initial audit we would expect you to suggest and implement a plan of action to that will:
  • Ensure that security protocols are up-to-date.
  • Increase the efficiency and redundancy in the network.
  • Decrease the mangement & maintenance time/effort required to keep the boxes running
  • Implement any additional commercial (or open source) packages that will make server maintenance, monitoring, account creation, etc, simpler and easier.
  • Additional experience with SSL certificates, CVS would also be beneficial.
