Manager of Applications Engineering at DIVX

Manager of Applications Engineering
Location: USA, San Diego
Description
Are you an uber-geek, always the first to have the latest gadget – preferably before it's even released? Do you love consumer electronics, product development and watching movies? Does the local computer store know you on a first-name basis? If so, you’re looking in the right place. We're looking for a Manager of Applications Engineering to head up our technical service departments, work closely with integrated chip (IC) manufacturers, original design manufacturers (ODMs), original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and independent software vendors (ISVs) to incorporate DivX video technology into their products.

Our video creation and playback technologies power millions of consumer electronics devices, from DVD players to portable media players, mobile phones, digital cameras, home media servers and the list goes on. But success didn't come easy. To make it in the CE business, we had to ensure seamless interoperability of DivX content and devices, even across different brand names like Panasonic, Sony, LG, Roxio, Pinnacle, CyberLink etc. This requires insight, quality, precision and rock-solid engineering. Our technologies also power new and innovative web 3.0 applications, connected devices and online communities.

The ideal candidate for this position will have technical mastery in software and hardware design, a knack for troubleshooting and excellent people skills. They will be team-driven, never territorial, freely give credit to others and a poster child of Theory Y. If this sounds like you, then you'd love it here! Send us your resume.

The Everyday View
  • Lead our technical service departments to provide world-class engineering support and certification services to our business partners, namely IC manufacturers, ODMs, OEMs and ISVs in North America and Asia to help them integrate DivX technology into their products

  • Implement continual process improvement programs that focus on customer quality, manufacturing performance and efficiency
  • Participate in new product development, research and development and go-to-market activities
  • Encourage teamwork and cross-functional cooperation between engineering, support, sales and business operations teams
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation
  • Travel may be required up to 20% of the time to support and build relationships with DivX partners

The Kind of Person We’re Looking for
  • A proven track record managing application engineering, technical support and technical business operations within high-tech product development companies
  • Industry experience with consumer electronics, digital video and software engineering
  • Multicultural experience working with high-tech engineering companies in North America, Europe and Asia
  • Strong engineering, troubleshooting and communication skills
  • Ability to take ownership of multiple issues with demanding partners and ensure they are resolved in a timely manner
  • A mentor who can technically lead an engineering team and foster a positive work environment
  • A bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in computer science or electrical engineering is required
  • An MBA is a strong plus
