Senior UNIX Administrator at MLB

MLBAM is seeking a Systems Administrator for an immediate opening.
The Senior Systems Administrator will be responsible for deployment, management and maintenance of a large group of Sun enterprise systems running Solaris, Java (IPlanet, Netscape and SunONE) web server, application software, and other internet services. This position and associated skills are required to provide robust and secure internet services to Major League Baseball clubs, business partners and to baseball fans worldwide. Successful senior-level candidates must have 5 years of experience with enterprise software and hardware implementations.

Responsibilities
  • On location administration of Chicago area data center
  • Operate in a fast-paced, performance-focused team, ensuring that services remain online and responsive during the type of sudden demand surges that are associated with "big-event" periods
  • Ability to self manage and work outside of an office environment
  • Support and maintain a 24 x 7 Enterprise Internet Server Farm

Network Engineer at Volt Services

Location: Sacramento, CA

Description:
In this role, you will provide assistance and troubleshooting on data communications, network design and project management. You will monitor, update, store, and secure our client's program data. Overall duties are to assist in network integration, provide consultation and act as a technical resource for the client's administration and management staff. The client facility incorporates a client-server based system with over 200 desktops and users and six to eight servers. The major workstation applications include, but are not limited to: Microsoft Office 2000 and 2003 Professional, SAS, SPSS, SUDAAN, MapInfo, ArcView and Microsoft Project. The server's Operating Systems are NT4.0, Windows 2000 Server and Windows 2003 Server. Veritas is the software application used to back up data on the machines. The current desktop platforms are Windows 2000 and Windows XP. The current server platforms are NT4.0 Server, Windows 2000 Server, and Windows 2003 Server. The back end structure for supported database applications is Microsoft SQL Server 2000 with possible plans to upgrade to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 during the contract period. You will act as consultant and technical resource for administrators and management staff on: Business improvement issues.

  • Server based security permission configuration and maintenance.
  • Data backup application implementation and troubleshooting.
  • Operational Recovery Plan Origin and implementation (as needed).
  • System Management Server (SMS) advertisement research and design.
  • Design/Setup of an enterprise electronic document management system. Provide administrators with support on high level hardware and software issues including:
  • Printer, server and desktop updates.
  • Server and workstation replacement oversight.
  • Server, desktop, printer, and copier troubleshooting.
  • Hardware setup and installation.
  • Specialized software configuration, administration and support (i.e. SAS, SPSS, DBMS, SUDAAN, MapInfo, Mapmarker (this is correct), and ArcView, etc.).
  • Symantec AntiVirus (SAV) administration.
  • Support/Administration of LISTSERV Application.
  • Administer, maintain and troubleshoot a SAS 9.1.3 Server.
  • Design, setup and configure future version(s) of SAS server as required.
  • Migrate SAS programs and data to future SAS server(s) as required using custom SAS programming where applicable.
  • Provide SAS architecture and programming advice to staff upon request.
  • Optimize SAS server performance. Act as Project Manager on:
  • Conversion of hardcopies into electronic files.
  • Web/Office Automation consulting.
  • System/application conversion, upgrade and consulting for Windows, SAS, SQL, etc.
  • Maintaining and updating a centralized IT folder (e.g. drivers, procedures, etc.).
  • Provide system design, engineering and IT oversight functions for the program.
  • Design/Setup an enterprise electronic document management system.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science plus two years or more of equivalent professional experience as a Network Administrator, Project Manager and Consultant/or six years professional experience as a Network Administrator, Project Manager and Consultant. Practical experience will include: Five years of applicable experience including: Specialized knowledge of business issues related to implementing systems.
  • Experience in business best practices.
  • Experience in management of complex business change.
  • Development, implementation, and administration of medium to large sized network systems using client/server technology (e. g. Windows NT Server, Windows 2K Server, Windows 2003 Server).
  • Administration of a Local Area Network system to include File and Print and Application services (specifically: SAS and SQL servers).
  • Training or certification supporting this experience. Three years of the experience must include: Managing teams in a client/server environment.
