We’re looking for people like you.

How Big Can You Think?

Yahoo Finance Program:

The Yahoo! Finance Program, or YFP, is an intensive rotational program of up to two years. The YFP provides an ideal opportunity for you to gain a broad understanding of operations and financial leadership at a high profile technology and media industry leader. The program attracts and develops a highly skilled and diverse team that has a meaningful impact on the business and participates in a wide range of learning experiences in environments ranging from mature, multi-billion dollar business lines to small entrepreneurial teams. The primary sponsor of the YFP is the Operations Finance team at Yahoo!, which partners with senior management across the company to influence business decisions by providing effective analysis and proactive decision support. Positions are typically available in our Silicon Valley and Los Angeles area offices.

Training

The YFP is committed to combining these rotational job assignments with classroom and other training to equip you with exceptional technical, financial, and business skills. An initial two weeks of intensive classroom-based training consists of an overview of Yahoo! and is an excellent way to meet your class and learn about our culture, businesses, management, and financial practices. Throughout the program, we provide on-going training for success in different rotations, giving you the opportunity to grow your skills and knowledge. Additionally, informational sessions allow you to learn about corporate strategic challenges from members of Yahoo! senior management. You will also have the guidance of a mentor, who can provide career advice and facilitate networking.

Job description:

Analyst positions are typically suited to those graduating from college or university with little or no prior work experience who are looking for an entry-level position. You will learn a great deal about our businesses, develop important relationships, and build the skills necessary to carry you through to the next level of your career. In general, you will:

  • Receive an introduction to Yahoo!’s businesses
  • Receive finance and business instruction by senior professionals
  • Participate in various networking and social events with your analyst class
  • Interact with a mentor
  • Participate in a 360-degree colleague-review of your goals and performance

We hire analysts into the YFP with a goal of assigning them to two or three 8 - 12 month rotations in different business areas. Rotations typically involve supporting business lines and corporate functions through analysis and reporting of operating and financial data, giving analysts the opportunity to understand different components of our business and begin building relationships around the company. Responsibilities may include:

  • Gathering, consolidating, and analyzing operating and financial results, recommending both process and business improvements
  • Producing financial and operating reports and presenting to senior finance management
  • Working with business unit and corporate teams to develop and maintain forward-looking forecasts of critical operating and financial items to support key business decisions
  • Representative assignments include a) creating the reporting structure, financial plans, and operating forecasts for a newly-formed business unit, working closely with senior professionals, b) identifying key drivers of a business for use by a Group’s executive leadership team to review business performance and identify areas for focus

While the YFP typically has a two-year term, it is designed to be the first step in a successful Yahoo! career. At the conclusion of the program, successful analysts may choose a variety of paths. You could elect an additional YFP rotation, typically in a Senior Analyst role, to broaden your experience. You could pursue a long-term position within the Yahoo! Finance organization, or even elsewhere within Yahoo!. Finally, you might leave Yahoo! to pursue graduate school or other professional opportunities. For those analysts who elect to pursue an MBA, Yahoo! will provide basic support including recommendations and alumni networking.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

We seek candidates who have excellent analytical skills, a focus on results, the ability to articulate complex ideas, and creative problem solving abilities. Candidates must also demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, effective teamwork, attention to detail, and the ability to quickly assess problems and find workable solutions. Candidates must have a passion for technology or media and have demonstrated strong academic performance and professional drive. Candidates must be able to demonstrate clearly the ability to manage multiple projects in an environment that is fast-paced and highly dynamic.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

Preferred majors include Business, Finance, Economics, or Accounting; however, all those with business majors or related experience will be considered. Generally, you must possess a minimum GPA of 3.2.
