IT Sr. Developer Applications Architect at VMware

Location: CA-Palo Alto

Job Description:
The Application Architect develops leading edge solutions and architectures to address enterprise requirements. A key component of the job is integration of packages and programs residing on multiple platforms.

Responsibilities:
  • The Application Architect will be responsible for assisting in the definition, planning and execution of Reference Architecture and Application direction.
  • Present ability to be influential in forwarding architecture initiatives across multiple development teams in a large, fast-paced IT environment.
  • Assist in the balancing and optimizing application design, performance and stability on core front office systems.
  • Ensures that the development teams employ balanced technical solutions and is responsible for building and maintaining reference architectures, standard documents, service catalogs as well as other supporting architecture documentation.
  • Research problem areas, record as-is architecture, work with application owners to define to-be architecture, establish a plan and cost/benefit analysis to migrate from the as-is to the to-be architecture
  • Ensure Application Platforms follow and have consistent development standards
  • Define and provide guidance in implementing new architectures, especially Services Framework
  • Understand key business processes and work with Sr. Development Managers and Platform teams to establish reference architecture and plans to migrate or keep applications inline with business processes
  • Support development and maintenance of Application Monitoring and Performance measurement and reporting
  • Ensure that applications are architected to support this reporting
  • Work with platform teams to ensure applications are properly positioned for future changes and growth and there is a sustainable plan to achieve these future anticipated changes
  • Provide support in business analysis, business architecture, and requirements expertise for IT systems across the financial services enterprise
  • Participate on projects as Domain Architect and provide technical direction based upon Reference Architecture and ensure technical requirements are recorded on a per project basis
  • Quickly diagnose and cure technical issues encountered in the production environment when needed
  • Contribute in developing and refining process and procedures that contribute to improving Application Development methodology and related processes
Qualifications:
  • 7-9 years prior software development experience
  • Experience in design, development and architecture on J2EE Application Frameworks and EAI
  • Experience in Web Services design, development and architecture
  • Experience with BEA, Oracle Portlet Frameworks is a plus
  • Knowledgeable of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
  • Knowledgeable of Oracle EBS modules is a plus.
  • Must be self-directed in identifying and implementing architecture improvements
  • Excellent demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
